Video: 'Top Chef All-Stars' analysis

Feb 24, 2011

Food editor Joe Yonan and deputy editor Bonnie Benwick dissect this week's episode of Bravo's 'Top Chef All-Stars'.

What did you think of the episode? Do you agree with who was sent home? Discuss that and more live.

Are you guys as bummed about Dale leaving as I am?

Wow -- I thought sure that Carla (winner of the coveted "she makes food that I'd most want to eat) was gonna get knifed. What saved her?

Okay, I realize that he's local, but let's face, that was a serious d-bag thing to do - stealing a recipe like that? And winning???? I thought he'd gotten past that. Oh, well. Go Carla! (And Antonia.)

Dale did not impress me during his first season (food or personality), but he came into his own during All-Stars. I was looking forward to a Richard/Angelo/Dale finale. Now, it is just Richard (if he makes it) and the finale sounds less exciting. If anyone other than Richard wins, is that person really the best chef? (I don't think so.)

And that's sad, because the show had a supposed Gulf region/Louisiana theme. Were there any dishes you wanted to eat or make yourself?

Why do the producers feel the need to keep bringing back previously eliminated chefs as kitchen helpers? Aside from Marcel's messing up Tiffany's dish (which she handled like a grownup), there didn't seem to be much fireworks between the sous chefs and the current contestants. Again, the show needs some new ideas.

Thank God for John Besh, otherwise last night's show would've been worse than the Target episode. I know TV shows need to make money, but there HAS to be a better way than having Paula Deen show up.

I thought Food Network stars weren't allowed on Bravo (competitor). What gives with Paula Deen getting to be on both?

Your blog write-up on last night's episode raised a really interesting point that has had me thinking all morning here at work: Is it okay for Carla to assume that Tre knows how to cook a certain way because he is black?

I thought Carla was toast. I like her and would like to eat her food, but I don't see her as creative as Richard or Dale. It seems like it is now Richard's to lose, even though he seems to whine a lot more this season. Antonia might be have a chance. Would love to see her win just so Richard and Mike would lose to a "girl".
