NOAA Hurricane Season Outlook

Driving home these days, I hear often about rain or thunderstorms west of the Blue Ridge. As the Blue Ridge mountains are tiny compared to some of the mountains in the West, do they significantly affect our rainfall, the way the Sierra Nevada create the Great Basin desert?

What happened there? I was one of many people who showed up at the park, under clear skies, and was stunned to learn the game had been canceled. For this I took a day off work? I had checked weather.com aroiund 10 a.m. which indicated that the chance of rain was only 10% until 4 p .m., when it increased to 20%. Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper.

Has this been an unusually rainy spring? I coach baseball and have had a ton of rain outs.
